Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A gorgeous free-blown unguentarium made from thick, near-opaque glass of an emerald green hue. The vessel presents a flat base and a smooth pontil scar, a conical body with a slight corseted neck base, a tubular neck, and a flared spout. Faint areas of silvery iridescence are scattered across the exterior surface and provide a lovely chromatic complementarity to the verdant vessel. Glass vessels like this example were typically used to store precious scented oils, though evidence of powdered substances have been uncovered in similar unguent-holding containers. Size: 2" W x 3.625" H (5.1 cm x 9.2 cm).
