Description:

Roman, late Imperial Period, ca. 4th to 5th century CE. A fine glass jar with an apple-shaped body and a rim that widens from the neck. The most striking feature is the glass zigzag lattice work (rigaree) from the edge of the rim to the shoulder. In a few places on the neck, clear glass shines through, but for the most part the body is covered in a dark patina, with liberal areas of bright rainbow iridescence, especially on the inside of the rim and on the rigaree. There is no pontil mark, suggesting that the piece was mold-blown. Size: 3.5" W x 4.2" H (8.9 cm x 10.7 cm)
