Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. Beautifully crafted from translucent glass of cool wintergreen hues, a jug with a six-sided body - each face adorned by attractive molded motifs - two with leaf sprigs, two with honeycomb motifs, and two with vertical bands of three contiguous diamonds surrounding circular motifs - rising to a tubular neck that is decorated with a single trail of glass around the center and flares to a wide mouth with a folded rim. An elegant thick trailed handle joins the rim to the curved shoulder, and the concave base is impressed with a segmented composition, each wedge further adorned by a diamond pattern.
