Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. late 2nd century CE. A striking mold-blown head flask comprised of translucent green glass with an aubergine tinge on the face and coiffure. The vessel presents a youthful visage on the front surrounded by a curly coiffure that surrounds the body of the vessel - with each curl delineated via a petite hemisphere. The figure's neck extends below with a flat bottom, and the vessel's tubular neck rises above, gently flares, and resolves in a folded rim. The molded form is very well realized and captures the image of this chubby cheeked boy - perhaps representing the youthful Dionysos, the god of wine, pleasure, and theatre. Size: 3.375" H (8.6 cm)
