Description:

Roman, early Imperial Period, ca. early 1st century CE. A fine, free-blown bowl formed from translucent glass of a nearly-colorless hue. It has a flat base with a raised circular foot and a rough pontil scar, short walls, a shallow basin with a slight central kick, and a flared, rolled rim. A raised horizontal trail encircles the exterior just beneath the rim. Dense encrustations cover most surfaces, however they do not detract from the brilliant rainbow-hued iridescence which envelops the composition. A lovely and early example of Roman glass-blowing artistry! Size: 4.25" W x 1.125" H (10.8 cm x 2.9 cm).

#135156

  • Condition: Minor abrasions to rim, walls, and base, with light encrustations and weathering film, and light pitting, otherwise intact and very good. A rough pontil scar indicates the vessel was free-blown. Nice earthen deposits and great rainbow iridescence throughout.
