Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. An intriguing, near-opaque lime-green glass bottle with a rounded yet stable base, four indented walls which taper gradually to a narrow neck, a collared and in-folded rim, a deep interior cavity, and a wide, trailed handle. The exterior coloration is complemented by thick areas of silvery and rainbow iridescence in hues of amethyst, sapphire, emerald, ruby, citrine, and topaz. Bottles like this example were used to contain everything from table wine and cooking oil to funerary offerings. Typical bottles of this size have angular and pronounced shoulders, making this tapered example one of elevated rarity! Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 3" W x 8.1" H (7.6 cm x 20.6 cm).
