Description:

Late Roman to Early Byzantine, ca. 300 to 500 CE. A beautiful pair of glass amulets with a generally circular form and a flat bottom, a raised periphery, and an integral suspension loop. These are mold-pressed from attractive aqua blue and emerald green glass. Both depict a stylized zoomorph which is hard to discern, but may be a lion or horse. Both are wearable and strung on a modern cord with a silver plated lobster clasp. The blue glass has developed a pretty iridescence! Size of cord for both: 21" L (53.3 cm); blue pendant: 1" L x .75" W (2.5 cm x 1.9 cm); green pendant: .875" L x .675" W (2.2 cm x 1.7 cm)

Provenance: ex-Phoenicia Holyland Antiquities, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
