Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. A petite bronze steelyard beam with a trio of suspended hooks on one side and a teardrop-shaped weight on the other. The weight moves freely along the incised beam to carefully calculate the weight of the load held on the other end. Fine layers of green patina have developed naturally across the surfaces of each component. Size: 6.9" L x 0.3" W (17.5 cm x 0.8 cm); 3.9" H (9.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-private Charlotte, North Carolina, USA collection, acquired in the 1980s - 2000
