Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A mold-cast bronze weight used on steelyard balances. The convex weight depicts a putto (cherub) wearing a breastplate with a petite pair of wings just behind his shoulders. His youthful face exhibits chubby cheeks and a furrowed brow beneath a coiffure of tight curls and an integral suspension loop. Mottled green and brown patina covers the entire casting. Size: 1.8" W x 3" H (4.6 cm x 7.6 cm)

Provenance: private collection, Studio City, California, USA, acquired between 1995 and 2015
