**First Time At Auction**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to late 2nd century CE. A finely preserved furniture fragment cast from leaded-bronze, perhaps a chair leg or part of a chair back. The piece is tubular in form and features the head of a youthful male on the front with a full face, petite ears, and a neatly arranged coiffure. Above his head is a broad ivy leaf with five spade-shaped protrusions. Beautiful layers of matte brown and green patina have formed across the composition and imbue it with a distinguished presentation. Size: 1.1" W x 2" H (2.8 cm x 5.1 cm)

Provenance: private collection, Studio City, California, USA, acquired between 1995 and 2015
