Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A lovely hand-carved banded agate intaglio featuring a right-facing archer. The nude figure is shown pulling back the string of a bow just prior to loosing an arrow at a waterfowl flying through the air and has a bushy beard to accentuate his masculine visage. The intaglio is set within the ovoid bezel of a silver ring that measures 82% to 86.5% purity, and the bifurcated shoulder bands coalesce below to form the narrow shank.   • Condition: Agate intaglio is ancient, and silver ring is modern. Constructed in modern times and wearable as shown. Minor abrasions to intaglio surface and light encrustations within recessed ring areas, otherwise intact and very good. Great patina to silver ring and nice preservation to intaglio imagery.
