Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. A gorgeous ovoid intaglio carved from agate with dark-brown, white, and caramel-hued bands that create a naturally layered presentation. The top is incised to depict a scene with a man - perhaps a farmer - standing with a cane behind a pair of bulky oxen. The man stands with a hunched posture and holds one arm in the air to drive the oxen forward. A beautiful example with lustrous polished surfaces. Custom putty impression included. Size: 0.9" L x 0.6" W (2.3 cm x 1.5 cm).
