Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd century CE. A beautiful carnelian intaglio of an ovoid form with a smooth verso. The etched front depicts the dignified countenance of Jupiter (Greek Zeus), the bearded king of the gods who was regarded as the ruler of both heaven and earth. His face presents with a serious expression composed of almond-shaped eyes, a slender nose, a full beard, and a shaggy coiffure bound with a thin headwrap. Custom putty impression included. Size: 0.8" L x 0.625" W (2 cm x 1.6 cm).
