Description:

Rome, Imperial Period ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. Comprised of beautiful, free-blown aubergine glass, an elegant vessel presenting a broad-shouldered body with a concave bottom showing a nice broken pontil mark, a short neck and funnel mouth and an out-folded rib. Two soft green glass, sinuous trail handles join the shoulders with the rim of the jar. The surface presents stunning rainbow iridescence, most prominently boasting shades of purple, blue, orange, and green. What's more, aubergine is one of the rarest and most desirable of all Roman glass colors. A fabulous example! Size: 4.25" W x 4.625" H (10.8 cm x 11.7 cm)

Provenance: private Dere collection, East Coast, USA assembled between 1970 and 2000
