Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A beautiful, wearable ring formed from 91.5% gold (equivalent to 21K+), with a thick shank with expanding terminals that form the shoulder and ovoid face. Inlaid within the face is a hand-carved stone intaglio of red and pale-yellow hues that presents a tall shield leaned against a slender spear, and flanking the armaments are a pair of columnar shapes, perhaps either pedestals or enlarged greaves. The intaglio is surrounded with a twisted gold wire border that subtly accentuates the elegance of the composition. Size (ring): 0.9" W x 1.1" H (2.3 cm x 2.8 cm); (intaglio): 0.6" L x 0.4" W (1.5 cm x 1 cm); quality of gold: 91.5% (equivalent to 21K+); total weight: 7.8 grams; US ring size 7.25.
