Description:

Europe, Late Bronze Age, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A petite penannular ring consisting of gold foil wrapped around an inner core with impressed bands at the terminals. Although such penannular rings decorated with gold foil are typically called "hair-rings" or "ring-money", we do not actually know their exact function. While most frequently found in Ireland, examples have also been found in Wales and southern England, as well as in Scotland, France, and the Low or Benelux Countries (Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg). Size: 1" in diameter (2.5 cm) from end to end; ring thickness is .25" in diameter (0.6 cm). Weight: 3.4 grams. Gold quality 87%, equivalent to 20K+. Rectangular white area comprised of 82.72% gold, 8.24% silver, 3.3% copper, and 2.5% zinc.
