Description:

For every order (single or multiple lots) in this auction, Artemis Gallery will donate 25 meals to Community Food Share, a Feeding America Food Bank.

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A beautiful ring of a wearable form with a body comprised of 91% gold (equivalent to 21K+) with thick shoulders, a tapered shank, and a central ovoid bezel. Inset within the bezel is a polished garnet cabochon of warm crimson hues. Garnets were incredibly popular decorative stones in ancient Rome as the red color was highly symbolic of not only passion and romance but also trust and friendship. Rings like this example were exchanged by good friends as parting gifts if they were likely to never cross paths again as garnets also represented the strength of one's bond of friendship with another. Size (ring): 0.8" W x 0.75" H (2 cm x 1.9 cm); (garnet): 0.25" W (0.6 cm); quality of gold: 91% (equivalent to 21K+); total weight: 2.2 grams; US ring size 3.5.
