Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A beautiful single earring formed from 82% gold (equivalent to 18K+) depicting a winged cupid (Erote). In the Roman period, Cupid had become a child (in earlier Greek times, he was often a muscular youth), but he retains his mischievous air, ready to help couples fall in love through not-entirely-innocent interventions. Here he is shown with arms at his hips, a quiver belt around his chest, and a pair of wings emanating from behind his shoulders and flanking his head. Fitted with a modern ear wire, this earring is ready to wear for any occasion! Size (w/o ear wire): 0.61" L x 0.16" W x 0.63" H (1.5 cm x 0.4 cm x 1.6 cm); gold quality: 82% (equivalent to 18K+); weight (w/ ear wire): 1.5 grams.
