Pre-Columbian, northern highlands of Peru, Recuay culture, ca. 200 to 600 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel depicting a rotund anthropomorphic figure. The round-bottomed vessel presents with a spherical body, a pair of petite feet protruding from in front of hands grasping a small olla, and a raised head bearing ovoid eyes and a prominent nose. Concentric white and red-orange stripes decorate the body and head cover of the figure as well as the handle that stretches between the head and the flared cylindrical spout. Size: 5.6" W x 6.625" H (14.2 cm x 16.8 cm)

  • Condition: Restoration to areas of spout and back of head, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Minor abrasions to body and pigment. Nice preservation to original pigment throughout.
