Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Cauca Valley, Quimbaya culture, ca. 4th to 7th century CE. A fantastic set of 20 pottery spindle whorl beads presenting in a variety of forms and sizes. Boasting hues of black, creamy beige, and sienna, all of the beads are either spherical, barrel-shaped, or spindle-shaped. Additionally, each are pierced with an annular drill hole and decorated with intricately incised geometric designs. Five of the ancient beads have been adorned with an applied cream-hued pigment along their incised motifs. Known as "husos", these spindle whorls would attach to a stick in the center and spin the thread with their weight. Size: 2.375" in diameter x 1.125" H (6 cm x 2.9 cm)

  • Condition: Largest bead has had rim repaired. Expected surface wear with a few beads having nicks/chips, abrasions, and some minor softening of detail. Otherwise, all are very nice with lovely earthen deposits in recessed areas.
