Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Vicus, ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. A molded pottery effigy vessel in the form of a zoomorphic head with an elongated snout, small ears, and grinning teeth. The unknown creature is perhaps a monkey, llama, peccary pig, or an imaginative combination of these animals. The head is hollow with a flared rim and small strap handle, which may have been used as a funerary vessel and storing offerings. Size: 8" L x 5.5" W x 9" H (20.3 cm x 14 cm x 22.9 cm)

  • Condition: Professionally repaired and restored. The snout is reattached with infill to break line on exterior, break visible on interior. Old inventory numbers on the base surface. Abrasions and chips. Light mineral deposits and manganese scattered on the surface.
