Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, United States or Canada, Tlingit, ca. mid-20th century CE. Two large pattern boards made from cedarwood boards with bold formline motifs painted on the front side. Chilkat blanket weavers would reference these boards for the correct placement of the pattern- since most chilkats are a symmetrical motif, only half of the pattern / blanket shape is needed- this pattern half is further split into two separate panels for ease of transport and/or positioning. Size of both together: 40.25" L x 1.5" W x 36" H (102.2 cm x 3.8 cm x 91.4 cm); wider board: 25.5" L x 1.5" W x 36" H (64.8 cm x 3.8 cm x 91.4 cm); 31" H (78.7 cm) on included custom stand.
