Ancient Near East, Sumeria, ca. 2nd to 1st millennium BCE. A fascinating abstract figure of a ram, made from a thin, curved strip of pottery, with long legs and equally long snout. The top of the head is dominated by the massive curved antler. In the ancient Near East, the power and virility of the spiral-horned ram was symbolic of leadership and masculinity. Size: 4.45" W x 3" H (11.3 cm x 7.6 cm); 3.7" H (9.4 cm) on included custom stand.
