Rome, 2nd half of the 4th century CE. Fragments like this one are scarce as hen's teeth! A very rare redware pottery fragment depicting the biblical Adam, nude aside from the fig leaf, of the famed Genesis creation narrative. God created Adam and Eve together with flora and fauna on the sixth day. This section from an ancient dish depicts a standing Adam from just beneath his torso, right hand holding a fig leaf over his genitals, left hand upraised, a finely delineated rendering. Size: 1.75" L x 2" W (4.4 cm x 5.1 cm)
