Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Nazca culture, ca. 100 BCE to 800 CE. A cute miniature seated figure, perhaps made as a votive, hand built from ceramic. The figure is a nude woman with clear genitalia and small painted dots representing nipples. Her hair hangs in two painted black plaits onto her shoulders. Her hands, feet, buttocks, and back all have painted grid-like patterns that contrast with her buff skin. These may represent tattoos or body paint that signify who this female figure represented in Nazca society. Size: 1.7" W x 1.85" H (4.3 cm x 4.7 cm); 2.3" H (5.8 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Tucson, Arizona, USA collection, acquired between 1950 and 1985
