Description:

Native American, North America, Central Plains, ca. early 1800s. A rare double-headed club comprised of burled wood, perhaps grafted to achieve this effect. Burls present an intricately figured wood that is relished for its beauty and rarity by sculptors, furniture makers, and artists. Because of its interlocking grain and strong matter, burls were ideal for creating clubs. This club was collected in the San Diego area; however, the burled head may have originated in the Central Plains and arrived further West via trade. Shows age. Intact and good condition.
