Description:

Pre-Columbian, Maya territories, Late Classic, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-built pottery vase with a round body on tab-shaped tripod feet, its exterior shoulder walls decorated with red cinnabar embellished incised iconography on a grey ground. Two glyph-like heads adorn this area, probably representing the god Kukulkan (Quetzalcoatl), the winged serpent. Two wide loop handles sit close to the body on the shoulder, each also incised with glyph-like iconography. Size: 6.45" W x 5.45" H (16.4 cm x 13.8 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired and restored on one side near a handle. This is well done and difficult to discern. Otherwise in nice condition with a few small chips from the rim and other peripheries. Much of the cinnabar pigment is still in good condition.
