Ancient Near East, Luristan, ca. 1000 BCE. A delicate cast bronze jar with a flared round foot, bell-shaped base, indented shoulder, and hourglass-shaped neck. Two thin handles flow from the neck to the upper body. A rare form from Luristan, a region renowned for its ancient bronzes, this was likely made to be placed into a tomb. Size: 2.9" W x 4.3" H (7.4 cm x 10.9 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA collection, acquired from Goldberg Auctions, Los Angeles, California, USA in 1968

  • Condition: Bottom of one handle is separated from the body. Small indentation on shoulder. Deposits on surface commensurate with age, with a dark green-brown mottled patina. Wax deposit on the base used in the past to stabilize it on a shelf.
