Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 700 BCE. A lovely finial in the form of a cast bronze ram, standing on four legs that meet at a central platform with a small pin on its underside for attachment. Its face is delightful, with huge eyes and cute ears that poke out beneath its large horns. Luristan's craftsmen produced high quality bronze objects for a class of nomadic horse lords whose love of their animals shines through clearly in the decorative items they commissioned. Size: 2.45" W x 2.45" H (6.2 cm x 6.2 cm); 2.7" H (6.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection; ex-Mahboubian collection, New York, USA 1970s
