Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Guanacaste region, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. An incredible brownware pottery bowl of round-bottomed but stable form with an overhanging rim and an elaborate decorative register. The exterior surfaces are adorned with raised and highly stylized, incised figures and creatures that perhaps depict a hunting scene. Two figures are shown carrying a large feline creature while a third figure holds another large cat; a sizable lizard is shown at their feet. Size: 6.49" Diameter x 3.6" H (16.5 cm x 9.1 cm)

Provenance: ex-private USA collection, acquired before 2000 from noted dealer Robert Anderson, Mason City, Iowa, USA; all items from this collection have been appraised by Marianne Huber in 2014
