Description:

Magna Graecia, South Italy, Apulian, ca. 4th century BCE. A fine ceramic kylix form comprised of a wide shallow bowl on a raised foot and twin upraised handles, the interior bowl adorned with a nude Eros sitting upon a rock seat, holding a casket in his outstretched right hand, wings outspread behind. Surrounding the figure and adorning the inner rim is Greek Key (or meander) design and a sinuous ivy vine pattern. Interestingly, and quite uncommon for the style, the exterior is also highly decorated with a female presenting a casket and wreath to a nude youth on one side, and a pair of nude youths in discussion on the other. A fabulous example of this ancient vessel used for drinking wine, perfect for all you oenophiles and/or sports fans out there! Size: 11.125" W x 2.125" H (28.3 cm x 5.4 cm)
