Description:

Greece, Hellenistic, ca. 2nd century BCE to early 1st century CE. A sensitively modeled head of a youthful Eros (Roman counterpart Cupid) - with delicate features, whose sculptor was clearly gifted with an ability to render 'living' flesh from marble. Notice how the child's tranquil visage is carefully modeled with remarkably naturalistic features - those generously lidded almond-shaped eyes, his aquiline nose, full bow-shaped lips lifted in a slight smile, naturalistic ears, and soft though angular chin - crowned by a wavy coiffure with adorable ringlets and central plaited band. An enchanting depiction of Eros! Size: 6" L x 5.5" W x 7" H (15.2 cm x 14 cm x 17.8 cm); 9.5" H (24.1 cm) on included custom stand.
