Description:

Ancient Seas, Morocco, Devonian Period, ca. 416 to 358.2 million years ago. A fossilized Burmeisterella trilobite upon a stone matrix with great preparation; the body almost entirely excavated from the sandstone matrix and slightly raised above, with the cephalon almost completely free. This is a rarely seen species that is quite sizable and almost full length in this presentation, the cephalon head tilted slightly downward. Trilobites, meaning three lobed, have three major sections from which their name is derived; the cephalon that contains the sensory organs such as eyes and antennae, the thorax with the articulating plates, and the pygidium, or tail area.
