Description:

Central Asia, Bactria, ca. 2500 to 2000 BCE. This is a bronze votive axe that would have been placed atop a standard for ceremonial purposes; it has a small, round socket and a hook along the top of the curved blade. Votive axes were also used throughout the ancient Near East, suggesting a similarity of culture; weapons are often associated with the gods. Size: 2.5" L x 1.55" W (6.4 cm x 3.9 cm).
