Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Chihuahua, ca. 1000 to 1300 CE. An unusual Casas Grande female effigy polychrome pottery vessel, depicting a female lying on her back, her tranquil visage presenting closed eyes, a protruding curved nose, slit mouth, petite ears, and red and black dotted face paint or tattoo markings, her arms beside her torso of a petite olla form decorated with a black zigzag motif circumscribed by red and black bands, her genitalia clearly defined below, and her legs extended with red and black painted bands just above the knees and nicely delineated toes. Quite rare! Size: 8.5" L x 4" W (21.6 cm x 10.2 cm)
