Description:

Pre-Columbian, Chile, Atacama Desert, ca. 0 to 1000 CE. An extremely rare wooden boat, used either as a toy, or a learning tool for a boat-builder. The wooden planks are bound together with lengths of leather cord. Made in the style replicated by Thor Heyerdahl of Kontiki fame to prove that the Pre-Columbian natives could have originally populated Polynesia. Size: 16" L x 5" W (40.6 cm x 12.7 cm); 5.75" H (14.6 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, collected from 1950 to 1960s; Similar raft published by Sven Heyerdahl of Kon-Tiki fame.
