Description:

North America, Green River Formation, Wyoming, Eocene era, ca. 56 to 33 million years ago. Wow this is certainly a keeper! A fish that has been fossilized and beautifully preserved in a large matrix. The fish is a priscacaridae, a type of ray-finned fish. The bones have darkened to a deep umber brown that contrasts nicely with the beige matrix that surrounds the fish. The priscacaridae is similar in shape to present day sun-fish, with ovoid body and large dorsal fins. The fin on the stomach under the trail are anal spines that would protect the fish from any rear-end attacks! A "fintastic" specimen that has great "sedimental" value. Size of frame: 16.5" L x 1.75" W x 14.75" H (41.9 cm x 4.4 cm x 37.5 cm); size of fish: 4.5" L x 2" W (11.4 cm x 5.1 cm)
