Description:

Ancient Seas, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 28 to 1.5 million years ago. A stunner! This is a pretty fossilized tooth from the prehistoric megalodon shark. The root and bourlette is matte black and brown. The enamel on one side has been polished to a glassy surface and reveals the glimmering pyrite along the center edges. The tooth retains many of the serrations from the root to the tip. Megalodons were one of the largest predators that the ocean ever saw, but their teeth are the only parts that remain since their cartilage bodies could not fossilize. Depending on the minerals in the sediment, their teeth can develop a variety of colors, such as the black in this stunning example! Size: 5.5" L x 3.75" W (14 cm x 9.5 cm); 5.75" H (13.3 cm) on included custom stand.
