Description:

North America, USA, ca. 1909 CE. One of the most valuable regular strike rarities of modern US coins - an S (minted in San Francisco) VDB penny, and to many collectors of US coinage, the Holy Grail of Lincoln cents. VDB stands for Victor David Brenner, who designed the Lincoln penny. He placed his initials on the design, below the wheat stalks on the base of the back of the coin. However, people felt that the initials were too large, so the US Mint removed them, but had already produced many of these pennies. Most of these were produced in Philadelphia - only 484,000 were produced in San Francisco. Size: 0.75" W (1.9 cm)
