1883 Dated. Sons of the Revolution Medal. 14K gold. By “Bailey, Banks & Biddle” Philadelphia and marked at lower eagle with BB&B. About Uncirculated. Obverse design shows a Drop-wing eagle on oval medal depicting a Continental soldier, 13 stars on scalloped blue frame. Reverse design shows George Washington Bust right, with “SONS OF THE REVOLUTION - 1883” surrounding. This example is marked BB&B on the reverse of the eagle, and is the only example we can find so hallmarked. This could be an indication that this was either a sample version of this medal, or a later, unauthorized version. Gold bezel 14kt. Gold medal itself tests at 71% gold - approximately 17 kt. Size: 1.125" W x 1.75" H (2.9 cm x 4.4 cm)
