Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A rather unusual Indonesian knife, known as a tom law, with a curved profile and two distinct bulb-shaped protrusions near the handle. This blade has a "Garuda" because of the way the tip resembles the pointed eagle-like beak of the mythological figure with the same name. The blade itself is crafted from an iron-nickel composite which, after extensive hammering and folding, displays lovely striation lines which adds a rough yet delicate appearance. The sheath is carved from a single piece of lightweight wood and has subtle contours carved along the exterior. The handle is crafted from near-opaque mammal horn, most likely buffalo, and has lovely light-hued streaks. Size: 14.25" L x 3.625" W (36.2 cm x 9.2 cm) length of blade: 8.5" L (21.6 cm).
