Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Navajo (Dine), ca. 1938 to 1943 CE. A lovely sterling silver cuff bracelet inlaid with five raised turquoise cabochons set in formfitting bezels, accented by an incised band. The interior bears the rare "US NAVAJO" stamp with an indiscernible number, dating the piece to the period when the American Indian Arts and Crafts Board (IACB) implemented a hallmark system to authenticate handmade Native American jewelry. The limited use of the hallmark (1938-1943) and the exacting standards artisans had to meet make jewelry stamped with the IACB inspection mark exceptionally rare and highly collectible. To qualify for the stamp, pieces had to be completely handmade without machinery from high purity silver, and feature genuine, untreated turquoise. This bracelet represents a unique chapter in Native American jewelry history, reflecting efforts to preserve authenticity amid growing industrial competition. Size: 2.2" Diameter x 0.4" W (5.6 cm x 1 cm); opening gap: 1" W (2.5 cm); silver quality: 93% to 94%; weight: 30.2 grams
