Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, Guatemala, ca. 600 to 900 CE. Fantastic terracotta 2-piece bust featuring Huehueteotl - Old God of Fire and a deity often depicted on incensarios. Composed of a hollow torso surmounted by removable head with arms held at sides and long fingers in gesture. Head shown as a jester. Characteristic curved snot, large blank eyes, the forehead pierced with pair of Kan Crosses, sweeping feathers at the side. Size: 9.5" H (24.1 cm)
