Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Seas, North America, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 28 to 1.5 million years ago. This is a pretty, fossilized tooth from a megalodon shark, one of the most feared prehistoric sea predators! The tooth is a dark matte brown with stable fissures from the fossilization process that have accumulated some sand and sediment from the time this tooth spent at the bottom of the ocean. The enamel is a pearly gray with russet mottled hues along the edges, which retain some of the natural serrations. The coloration and luster are a natural result of the fossilization process due to the chemicals and minerals present in the water and sediment as the tooth aged. Megalodons were among the largest predators the ocean ever saw, but their teeth are the only parts that have survived since their cartilage bodies could not fossilize. Pictured stand not included, but available for an additional fee. Size: 4.42" L x 3.24" W (11.2 cm x 8.2 cm)
