Description:

Pre-Historic, Americas, unknown location said to be from Argentina. According to archaeology scholar Edgar B. Howard Clovis points were a pre-historic American invention-perhaps the first American invention. Clovis points like this example are quite distinctive. They were chipped from jasper, chert, obsidian, and other brittle stone and have a lance-shaped tip and incredibly sharp edges. Extending from the base toward the tips are shallow, concave grooves called flutes that may have helped the points be inserted into spear shafts. They are typically about four inches long and a third of an inch thick. This example is nearly twice that length, and wonderfully sleek and beautifully made. In addition, a custom, museum-quality stand is included. (Smithsonian Magazine, November, 2013) 7-1/4"L x 1-3/4"W (at widest point) x 5/8" thick
