Native American, Southwestern United States, Northwestern New Mexico, Chaco Canyon, Mogollon culture, ca. 1000 to 1150 CE; Central Arizona to the Rio Grande Valley, New Mexico, Salado culture, ca. 1100 to 1200 CE. A set of 3 coil-and-scrape pottery vessels, each featuring finely corrugated exterior surfaces. A pair of bowls each have stable bases and tall walls pecked with thousands of petite corrugations, and each with a glossy black basin interior; the more petite is of the Reserve Plain Corrugated type and the larger is of the Reserve Indented Corrugated type. The largest jar exhibiting gray-white hues is of Mogollon origin - of the Chaco Reserve Indented Corrugated type - and features a piriform body with a pair of spiral-ended appliques surrounding the neck. Size of largest (Mogollon jar): 7.1" Diameter x 7.1" H (18 cm x 18 cm)

  • Condition: Mogollon jar has professional repair and restoration to areas of rim, and largest Salado bowl has professional repair to area of wall, both with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines; smaller Salado bowl is intact and very good. Larger Salado bowl has one stable fissure to exterior walls and chips to rim. Mogollon jar has pitting, coarseness to surfaces, light encrustations, and minor fire-darkening to some exterior areas. Nice preservation to overall forms. Each vessel has an old inventory label on it.
