Description:

Native American, Southwest, Acoma, date 1873 painted on base. A beautiful bichrome terracotta pitcher comprised of a piriform body with a loop handle joining neck to shoulder. Handbuilt via the traditional coil-and-scrape method, the form is quite attractive and beautifully embellished with three registers of painted stylized black-on-white geometric motifs. This vessel was created during the heyday of westward expansion, and some have suggested that the pitcher form was actually inspired by vessels that the newcomers brought with them. A gorgeous example, replete with a beautiful form and skillfully painted motifs. Size: 8.25" W x 6" H (21 cm x 15.2 cm)
