Native American, Southwestern United States, Mimbres-Mogollon (Anasazi / Ancestral Puebloan) culture, ca. 1100 to 1200 CE. A hand-built pottery pitcher vessel made using the coil-and-scrape method, the interior is smooth while the exterior was carefully indented with the potter's finger at remarkably regular, tight intervals. The corrugated surface made it easier to grip this pot, even when wet. Vessels like this one were used primarily for cooking, storage, and serving food.
