Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Mesa Verde Anasazi / Ancestral Puebloan, ca. 1150 to 1300 CE. A fine pair of hand-built pottery pieces with classic black-on-white linear patterning. The cup is shaped much like our current day coffee mugs with barrel-shaped body and large loop handle, the grayware slipped in a white and overpainted with black interlocking motifs. The storage pot is coiled and scraped into a large globular body with two lugged handles, and a short neck with slightly flared rim. The upper shoulder contains mesmerizing concentric triangle motifs and banding. Anasazi pottery was an invaluable utilitarian item for storing agricultural goods as well as a commodity for trading. Size of large pot: 15" Diameter x 14" H (38.1 cm x 35.6 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Idledale, Colorado, USA collection; ex-John B. Kendrick II collection, Denver, Colorado, USA, acquired 1965 to 1990
