Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi), ca. 1100 to 1300 CE. A pottery bowl formed by hand via the coil-and-scrape technique with a hemispherical form and thin walls, and painted on the interior with a zig zagging motif. Anasazi potters used a variety of techniques, but in the coil technique, they rolled long ropes of clay and built up the walls of the vessel by stacking and smoothing the coils on top of each other. After shaping and decorating, the surface of the vessel would be smoothed and polished using a polishing stone or other tools. This step not only refined the appearance of the pottery but also contributed to its durability. Size: 6.5" Diameter x 2.5" H (16.5 cm x 6.4 cm)
